Creating with the Cart 2018: Training Opportunity

9 March 2018

"I didn’t want it to end and would love to come and complete the course again.” Participant, 2017

“I was challenged and very inspired by the training and it has inspired much thought since.” Participant 2017

Oily Cart is one of the foremost companies in the UK creating theatre specifically for young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities or on the Autism Spectrum.

In 2018, we will mount a week-long training course in collaboration with Rose Bruford College which focuses on the theory and the practice of the company.

We have organised four highly successful week-long training courses in 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2017 to much acclaim from the participants, to get a flavour of what you can expect from the week please click here

Not only will you gain a broad understanding of the Oily Cart approach from the founding members of the company, but you will put theory into practice by working hands-on with a group of young people with complex learning disabilities or who are on the autism spectrum. Previously successful applicants for the training have come from Europe and North America, the Caribbean and Japan, as well as the UK, and have included educators, artists, performers and drama and music therapists. All have praised this thorough introduction to the internationally acclaimed Oily Cart multi-sensory and highly interactive method.

This will be a very hands-on course with the participants working with young people from the Linden Lodge Summer Scheme, to create 4 pieces of theatre that will be performed to those young people on the Friday afternoon - although parts will be shown as works in progress as the week goes on.

We shall be resident in Linden Lodge School, a magnificently equipped Special School set in beautiful grounds. This six day training programme, supported by Rose Bruford College, offers participants a unique opportunity to explore Oily Cart’s groundbreaking approach to theatre making for people with complex disabilities
